Privacy Policy
NOFA has created this Privacy Policy to explain why we collect particular information and how we will protect your personal privacy within the Website. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for the Website located at the URL www.nofaweb.org.
What Information We Collect:
Upon registering in the password protected Member Area of the NOFA website, members give us contact information that may include name, rank, active/retired status, spouse’s name, email and postal address, and similar information. Newly commissioned Ensigns are entered into the database with name and .gov email address provided to us by CPC so they will receive NOFA news/invitations. We do not request or store sensitive information from our members, such as credit card or social security numbers.
Members Use Of That Information:
It is the policy of NOFA not to sell or distribute any private information of our registered members. NOFA prohibits members selling or using member information for business use. If we find out a member is violating the use of the information, we will immediately rescind their access to the Member Area of the website. NOFA members are allowed to use the address database as a resource to keep in touch and stay connected with other NOAA officers, families and friends.
NOFA Clubs Use Of That Information:
NOFA Clubs, currently organized in DC and Seattle, will use the information to create a printable version of the address database on an annual basis. This will be uploaded in PDF format to the Member Area so that members can print a hardcopy. The DC club will use addresses to send out an annual NOFA dues mailing, usually in January. Both DC and Seattle Clubs will use email addresses to send out news and invitations to members, ie. – the annual holiday party in December, Dining Out Anniversary Dinner in May and other such events. The ACO uses our database to send out Dining Out invitations to officers and retirees with email addresses - they only mail paper to retirees without email and dignitaries.
Email Subscription:
NOFA occasionally puts out an electronic newsletter to members from a by-subscription email list. Using this system, NOFA can readily send out newsletters, invitations and other information to all our members who wish to receive them. All members are initially added to the list but may choose to opt out. Members may manage their subscription by logging into the Member Area or via links at the bottom of any newsletter.
Security:
We protect your information by placing it on a secure, password protected portion of the Site that is only accessible by login to active duty and retired NOAA Corps Officers, their families, and the people responsible for maintaining the site.
Internet Protocol Address:
We collect an IP address from all visitors to our Site. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with the server, administer our Site, analyze trends, track users' movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for us to improve the site. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
Other Websites:
Our Site contains links to other Websites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another Website for which NOFA has no responsibility. We encourage you to read the privacy statements on all such sites as their policies may be different than ours.
Contacting the Website:
