RADM Sam DeBow retires and RADM Jon Bailey and RADM Phil Kenul are sworn in with Historic Background

October 5, 2007 was a day of pride and honor as we said our goodbyes and welcomed our new Admirals. The Thomas Jefferson Memorial was a fitting venue to have the Change of Command Ceremony, with our founder looking on in this 200th year for the Survey of the Coast and NOAA. A broad range of Officers were present in their dress blue uniforms, as well as many family members and particularly the children of RADMs, DeBow, Bailey and Kenul. It was a memorable and inspiring occasion.

As our past & present NOFA - National Military Family Association Representatives, the NOAA Corps was proudly represented at this event by Alisa Behn (spouse of RDML Richard Behn) and Cheryl Glang (spouse of CDR Gerd Glang).

NOFA Celebrates and Supports NOAA's 200th Anniversary

NOAA 200 YearsIn 2007, NOAA celebrates 200 years of science, service and stewardship. In 1807 when the nation was new, Thomas Jefferson established the first federal science agency - Survey of the Coast - to support safe maritime commerce. The agency was responsible for: 1) surveying the coastline and seafloor and 2) creating nautical charts for safe navigation. Today's NOAA is a federal agency touching the lives of Americans in many ways... every single day.
